Background: Louisiana Tech University, located in Ruston, Louisiana, is a full fledged public university with an average 12,000 - 14,000 students each year. First instituted as Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in 1894, it is perhaps best known now for its engineering and art programs and its women's athletics, especially basketball. Its men's sports teams are known as Bulldogs; women's teams are called Lady Techsters. Famous alumni include Terry Bradshaw, Karl Malone, and Kix Brooks.

It is a member of the University of Louisiana System.
